Beautiful bays home to Vietnam’s greatest tourism potential

With a coastline of more than 3,200km, Vietnam boasts several beautiful beaches and bays, with the country seeking to take advantage of its natural gifts to attract more foreign tourists.
The East Sea, which stretches from Tra Co in northern Quang Ninh province to Phu Quoc Island in southernmost Kien Giang province has many natural large bays like Ha Long, Bai Tu Long, Van Phong, Cam Ranh, Nha Trang, Van Phong and Vinh Hy.

The most famous bays are Ha Long, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1994, and Nha Trang, recognized as one of the most beautiful bays in the world in 2003.

Based on the distinctive features of the sea regions, in recent years many Vietnamese localities and travel agencies have focused on offering suitable tourism forms and achieved initial successes in lure tourists.

For instance, visitors to Ha Long can take ships to tour the bay, which consists of nearly 2,000 islets sprinkled over 1,553 square kilometers, visit many beautiful caves, and row kayaks on the sea.

Local travel companies have long-offered visitors a chance to spend the night on Ha Long Bay and view the sunrise and sunset from right on the bay.

Visitors to Nha Trang and Van Phong bays in central Khanh Hoa province can enjoy scuba diving, take catamarans, a type of boat consisting of two hulls joined by a frame, and view coral reefs under the sea.

Product diversification

Many tour operators said the island and sea localities should gain experience from each other in developing tourism.

For instance, travel companies in Nha Trang city should invest in boats for tourists who want to stay on the bay at night in combination with other services like fishing or angling cuttle-fish at night.

The city should also build more floating restaurants along the beach to satisfy tourists who like to view the sea while enjoying food.

Nha Trang can also develop other sea sporting games like windsurfing, kitesurfing and catamaran tourism.
